The United States Food and Drug Administration is once again requiring Bayer Healthcare to update the marketing material for the popular prescription contraceptives Yaz and Yasmin.
The latest update was spurred by new information linking the drospirenone-based contraceptives to a higher risk of blood clots. This new requirement for the company’s marketing and advertising mirrors a recent announcement in Europe, in which Bayer was forced to add warnings about the higher risk of blood clots tot he packaging of both the Yaz and Yasmin pills.
The Food and Drug Administration informed Bayer in a letter last week that the pharmaceutical manufacturer was responsible for updating current information quickly and completely.
More than 1,100 lawsuits have been filed against Bayer over Yaz and Yasmin side effects.
