The drugmaker, Bayer Pharmaceuticals, will now be going to mediation to try and settle lawsuits claiming that the their birth control pill, Yaz, caused women to develop blood clots.
A judge in Illinois was assigned to the case in hopes to settle the claims in mediation instead of in court. The claims state that the drugmaker left out information about the Yasmin birth control family and the potential health risks that could occur when taking the prescription pill. This includes an increased risk of blood cl0t.
There have been more than 10,000 lawsuits filed that allege that the medication caused serious injury. Last year, the Food and Drug Administration stated that women who take this type of birth control have a 74 percent increased chance of developing a blood clot.
