A conflict of interest has arisen in the case of Yasmin and Yaz lawsuits regarding members of the committee.
It has allegedly been said that members of the Food and Drug Administration who were in favor to keep the Yasmin and Yaz on the shelves had previously worked for Bayer Pharmaceuticals or received some type of financial backing from the company.
This claims came after a government watchdog group wrote a letter claiming that a new hearing should be held in order to address these alleged claims. In December, 11 out of a 15 person committee voted that the advantages of Yasmin and Yaz outweighed the risks.
This vote meant that Yasmin and Yaz could remain on the market and avoid a recall. It was later found that at least four members of the committee had some type of tie to Bayer.
