The company that manufacturers that oral contraceptive Yasmin, Bayer Pharmaceuticals, has recently been sued by a North Dakota woman that allegedly suffered Deep vein thrombosis after using the birth control pill.
According to officials in the case, the lawsuit was filed in the Southern District Court of Illinois and states that the woman began taking Yasmin and Yaz in 2002. In 2004, the woman developed DVT, a condition that occurs when there is a blood clot deep in the body that causes the blockage in blood flow in the body and possibly an artery in the lung.
In October 2011, the FDA released a study on Yasmin and other drospirenone-containing birth control pills that states that they show an increased risk of causing serious side effects.
