Over 4,200 lawsuits have been filed against Bayer pharmaceuticals after women have claimed that they have suffered serious side effects after taking Yasmin, Yaz or Ocella birth control. One serious side effect that has a correlation with the drug is gallbladder disease.

Although it has been noted that there may be a correlation between the medicine and the gallbladder disease, the exact reason why it causes it is unknown. Nearly 43 percent of the claims against the company are alleging gallbladder disease after taking the pill.

Some have suggested that the hormones in the pill may increase the levels of cholesterol in bile and decrease the movement in the gallbladder which creates gallstones. It is unknown at this time how the court will process these cases.
