The judge presiding over the Yasmin and Yaz lawsuits has added a lead counsel for the makers of Ocella, the generic form of Yasmin.
The new lawyer will be representing the interests of Bayer Pharmaceuticals and Teva Pharmaceuticals. Ocella is a fourth generation birth control that includes a progestin, known as drospirnone, but this type of contraceptive have been linked to increased risk of blood clot, stroke, heart attack, pulmonary embolism, gallbladder problems.
Similar issues have been linked to Yasmin and Yaz lawsuits. Throughout the country, at least 3,700 Yasmin, Yaz, or Ocella lawsuits were filed in October. The complaints claim that the the manufacturers did not adequately research the medication.
