In 2006 a birth control pill was released that claimed to be “beyond birth control” but two years later the drug’s manufacturer was found by the FDA to be deceptive and irresponsible in their marketing.

That birth control pill was called Yaz or Yasmin. The contraceptive promised to treat acne and premenstrual syndrome in their advertisements, but this was not true. In 2008 the Food and Drug Administration ordered Yaz to pull their advertisements, citing the fact that the drug had never been approved to treat acne or PMS. A further investigation proved that Bayer, the maker of the drugs, was deceptive and misleading in their advertisements by failing to list the serious side effects of the pills.

Bayer tried to appease the FDA by running a $20 million corrective ad campaign, but the company has done nothing to help women who were injured by the drug. Numerous lawsuits have been filed against the company by women who have suffered such serious side effects as heart attack, stroke, liver tumors, blood clots, and deep vein thrombosis.
