The Food and Drug Administration has said that the popular fourth generation birth controls, Yasmin, Yaz and Ocella, are linked to the condition deep vein thrombosis.

This condition occurs when blood clots form in the leg. This condition can become fatal if the clot breaks free and travels to the lungs. If this occurs, it is called a pulmonary embolism.

The FDA is investigating the conditions that are associated with birth controls that include the hormone drospirenone. The FDA has reviewed two recent studies that show that women who took birth control containing that hormone, are two to three times more likely to develop a blood clot.
