Bayer Misleads & Deceives Yaz Users

Posted on February 26th, 2010 No Comments

The oral contraceptives Yaz and Yasmin, the top-selling pharmaceutical line under the Bayer HealthCare umbrella, have been criticized by researchers and health advocates.

The drugs have been shown to put women at higher risk for blood clots and strokes. The maker of the contraceptive has attempted to minimalize these studies. Bayer financed a massive health study in Europe which found that the drugs do not put women at a higher risks for any health problems.

The Food and Drug Administration ordered Bayer to correct misleading television commercials, and then cited the company for not following proper quality control procedures at a plant that makes hormone ingredients used in the drugs.

Following proper quality control procedures is not an option when dealing with  potentially life threatening chemicals. A Short History of Yaz Birth Control

Posted on February 18th, 2010 No Comments

In 2006 a birth control pill was released that claimed to be “beyond birth control” but two years later the drug’s manufacturer was found by the FDA to be deceptive and irresponsible in their marketing.

That birth control pill was called Yaz or Yasmin. The contraceptive promised to treat acne and premenstrual syndrome in their advertisements, but this was not true. In 2008 the Food and Drug Administration ordered Yaz to pull their advertisements, citing the fact that the drug had never been approved to treat acne or PMS. A further investigation proved that Bayer, the maker of the drugs, was deceptive and misleading in their advertisements by failing to list the serious side effects of the pills.

Bayer tried to appease the FDA by running a $20 million corrective ad campaign, but the company has done nothing to help women who were injured by the drug. Numerous lawsuits have been filed against the company by women who have suffered such serious side effects as heart attack, stroke, liver tumors, blood clots, and deep vein thrombosis.

Over 50 Women Involved in Indiana Class-Action Yasmin Lawsuit

Posted on February 12th, 2010 No Comments

More than fifty women in Indiana have sued the manufacturers of the birth control pills Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella claiming that the drugs cause heart attacks and strokes.

The contraceptives’ packaging includes warnings of heart attacks, strokes, blood clots, and gallbladder disease but the attorneys involved in the class action lawsuit do not believe those warnings are enough. They contend that “more adequate” warnings or a recall are necessary.

Bayer, the drugs’ maker, released a statement saying- “The company is in the process of gathering information on these cases, but the complaints we have reviewed so far pertain to side effects that are warned about in the labeling of all oral contraceptives, including ours.”

Almost 30 percent of women who use oral contraceptives take either Yaz or Yasmin.
