Women diagnosed with deep-vein thrombosis after taking Yasmin

A woman from California was diagnosed with deep-vein thrombosis after taking Yasmin birth control pills. She noticed a tightness in her chest nearly two months ago, but her doctor thought that it was an anxiety attack.

Shortly after she experienced a pain in her arm and a shooting pain in her hand and then numbness. The woman thought that she was having a heart attack so she called an ambulance and was rushed to the hospital. After a blood test and ultra sound a blood clot was found in her upper arm.

She was then diagnosed with DVT. The woman said that her doctor told her to stop taking Yasmin or any other birth control and she was admitted to the hospital for a week. Gallstones were also found and her gallbladder needed to be removed.

A US watchdog is asking women who have suffered with negative side effects concerning their health after taking Yaz or Yasmin birth control to come forward and share their stories with others in order to spread the message of the health risks associated.

The US Watchdog group wants to let women know about these side effects because they feel that women take the birth control without fully understanding the risks.

The Federal Drug Administration sent a warning letter to the maker of Yasmin and Yaz saying that there advertising was misleading because they downplay the health risks that can occur after taking the product. These oral contraceptives contain drospirenone, which can elevate potassium levels in the blood, according to the group.

Woman believes Yaz birth control caused her health problems

A woman from Orleans Parish is suing Bayer Corp. after being diagnosed with multiple pulmonary emboli, which she claims was caused from taking Yaz birth control.

The woman is arguing that Bayer failed to adequately warn her of the health risks associated with the birth control. The suit was filed June 8 and was filed against not only Bayer Corp, but also Bayer Healthcare, Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals, Bayer Pharmaceuticals Corp. and more.

The woman was prescribed Yaz and took it from October 2008 to July 2009 and she has suffered from multiple pulmonary emboli and other side effects. She is seeking damages for medical expenses, physical pain and suffering, mental anguish and loss of earnings.

Bayer files suit against Teva

Bayer, the German pharmaceutical company, has filed a U.S. lawsuit against Teva for false advertising and patent infringement.

Bayer claims that Teva had false claims on the Gianvi product. The product competes with Bayer’s oral contraceptive, YAZ, but according to Bayer, Teva’s product does not contain the substance that helps to stabilize the product and keeps its shelf life.

The legal process began in early June but Teva continues to distribute the product in the United StatesĀ  through July 2011.

Bayer Pharmaceuticals is now being sued by a group of Canadian woman because they experienced health issues after taking the oral contraceptives Yaz and Yasmin. The women claim in the lawsuit that that the manufacturer did not adequately inform them of the potential health risks.

The group of women have evidence that the pill caused health issues such as pulmonary embolisms, decreased bone density, stoke and gallbladder problems. The lawsuit is claiming the Bayer downplayed the risks that the pill poses on woman’s health. Over 100 lawsuits have been filed in the U.S. against Bayer for similar issues.

Actress claims stroke was caused by birth control

An actress is suing Bayer Pharmaceuticals claiming that Yasmin birth control pills caused her to have a stroke at age 27.

Brenda Hamilton, an under study actress for the Broadway play “Wicked,” claims in her lawsuit that Bayer knew that Yasmin had a greater risk for strokes than other birth control pills and withheld the information. The actress had no history of health issues when she suffered the stroke.

Sources say that the Yasmin website does state the oral contraceptives are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular issues. Hamilton’s lawsuit is just one of the 1,100 suits that the birth control pill lead to life-threatening health issues.

Study shows link between Yasmine/Yaz and blood clots

A study from the British Medical Journal has found that Yasmine and Yaz are linked to an increase risk of blood clots.

Young mother filing Yasmin lawsuit

A 21-year-old mother is filing a Yasmin lawsuit after having her Gallbladder removed.

In 2009, the woman reported having sharp stomach pains and no one knew what was causing the pain. She was taking Yasmin birth control but she planned to stop because she wanted to have more children. She became pregnant one month later, but when she was three months pregnant the stomach pains came back every time she ate.

The pain continued threw the whole pregnancy and after the birth of her child she had an inflamed gall bladder. Her gall bladder than had to be removed. Doctors told her that Yasmin/Yaz can create gall stones and her gall bladder was covered with them. Right now, the women is gathering all of her medical information in order to continue with her suit.
