Oklahoma woman files Yaz lawsuit

Posted on June 27th, 2012 No Comments

A woman from Oklahoma has filed a lawsuit against Bayer and its sister companies after she developed cholecystitis, or inflammation of the gallbladder, which required a cholecystectom. Her lawsuit will be added to the already 11,000 Yaz and Yasmin cases.

The woman claims Bayer was negligent and over-promoted the use of Yaz and Yasmin. She is also arguing that the birth control pills were defective and that the public was not provided with manufacturer warnings about the associated risks.

The plaintiff is seeking compensation for her medical expenses, pain and suffering, and punitive damages, seedol.com reports.

If you have suffered from painful side effects or life-threatening injuries after taking Yaz or Yasmin and want to learn how an attorney can help you with a lawsuit, contact the legal experts at Williams Kherkher by calling  800-761-3187.

Flying may increase risk of venous thromboembolism

Posted on June 20th, 2012 No Comments

Summer is here, and with it come vacations. In light of the season’s increased rates of air travel, the American College of Chest Physicians has released guidelines to help travelers reduce their risk of developing deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

Deep vein thrombosis occurs when a blood clot forms in a deep vein, normally in the legs or pelvis. It can be asymptomatic, but might cause swelling or discomfort. It is dangerous because if the clot becomes loose, it may be caught in the blood vessels in the lungs, causing a serious condition called a pulmonary embolism. When DVT leads to pulmonary embolism, it is referred to as venous thromboembolism.

Frequently flying can increase a person’s risk for DVT. The American College of Chest Physicians does not believe that having more in-flight legroom necessarily reduces the risk. It believes that people who have window seats are at higher risk because they are less likely to get up during the flight.

Certain oral contraceptives such as Yasmin, YAZ, and Ocella are also associated with a serious risk of pulmonary embolism. If you have used one of these birth control methods and since suffered one of their life-threatening side effects, contact the birth control lawsuit attorneys of Williams Kherkher at  800-761-3187.

Deep vein thrombosis risk may be higher in people with sleep apnea

A study conducted by researchers in Taiwan suggests that people who have sleep apnea are at a higher risk of developing deep vein thrombosis.

The seven-year study examined more than 10,000 people, of which about half had sleep apnea.

During the study, 40 cases of deep vein thrombosis were diagnosed. Three quarters of them were in the sleep apnea group. This suggests that people with the condition are three times as likely to suffer these dangerous blood clots.

Like sleep apnea, certain oral contraceptives can increase a person’s chances of having a deep vein thrombosis. If you have taken Yasmin and suffered from its dangerous side effects, contact the Yasmin birth control lawsuit attorneys of Williams Kherkher at 800-761-3187.

Post-stroke depression linked to specific brain network

Posted on June 6th, 2012 No Comments

Researchers at France’s University of Bordeaux have discovered a link between post-stroke depression and an area of the brain responsible for handling idle thought patterns.

Their findings, published online in the journal Radiology, show a relationship between a group of brain structures called the default-mode network (DMN) and post-stroke depression in women. The DMN is responsible for helping a person engage in internal thoughts and is activated when they are not focusing on a specific task.

In people who have suffered strokes and later became depressed, this area’s connections were modified.

Yasmin oral contraceptive products have been linked to a slew dangerous of side effect, including strokes, which can have a wide variety of complications. If you used Yasmin and have had a stroke, contact the oral contraceptive lawsuit attorneys of Williams Kherkher at 800-761-3187.
