Deep vein thrombosis risk may be higher in people with sleep apnea

A study conducted by researchers in Taiwan suggests that people who have sleep apnea are at a higher risk of developing deep vein thrombosis.

The seven-year study examined more than 10,000 people, of which about half had sleep apnea.

During the study, 40 cases of deep vein thrombosis were diagnosed. Three quarters of them were in the sleep apnea group. This suggests that people with the condition are three times as likely to suffer these dangerous blood clots.

Like sleep apnea, certain oral contraceptives can increase a person’s chances of having a deep vein thrombosis. If you have taken Yasmin and suffered from its dangerous side effects, contact the Yasmin birth control lawsuit attorneys of Williams Hart at 800-761-3187.

DVT treatment and diagnosis methods

Posted on February 15th, 2012 No Comments

Clinical guidelines have been put in place by international experts in order to help with the diagnosis of blood-clotting diseases.

A researcher at the Intermountain Medical Center in Salt Lake City has stated that research needs to be done on the treatment and diagnosis of blood clotting disease such as Deep vein thrombosis because they are such common conditions that can have devastating effects.

DVT usually occurs in the large veins in a person’s leg and can cause the area to swell. The painful condition can also cause the clot to break off and move throughout the body. When this occurs, it is called an embolism and this condition can be fatal if it travels to a vital organ. Because of this, a DVT requires prompt treatment so that severe damage does not occur from it.

Blood clotting has recently been linked to the use of Yasmin birth control. If someone you love has taken Yasmin and suffered a DVT as a result, you need representation on your side at this time that may be able to help you receive the compensation you deserve. Birth control users with common vein issue higher risk of blood clot

Nearly 25 percent of women have a vein malformation that makes them more likely to develop a blood clot while taking birth control.

The issue occurs when there is a narrowing of the left iliac vein, which is one of the major ones that returns blood from your lower body to your heart.

A recent study was published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology states that those who have the condition left iliac vein stenosis and they combine this with birth control containing estrogen and progestin, they multiply their chances of developing deep vein thrombosis by 18 times.

Deep vein thrombosis occurs when a blood clot is developed in the lower veins of the leg and they can travel to the heart. After the study was done, researchers conducted that if women are using the combined oral contraceptive and they develop deep vein thrombosis in their left leg, iliac vein stenosis should be looked into.

What is deep vein thrombosis?

Posted on December 7th, 2010 No Comments

Deep vein thrombosis is a blood clot that forms in a vein deep in the body and occurs when the blood begins to thicken and clump together.

Most deep vein blood clots occur in the lower leg and thigh, but it can happen in other parts of the body as well. If a blood clot in a vein breaks off and begins to travel it is called an embolus.

If it travels to the lung and blocks the blood flow, it is called a pulmonary embolism. This condition can cause serious damage to the lung and other body parts and can even cause death.

Recently, deep vein blood clots have been linked to certain types of fourth generation birth controls such as Yasmin and Yaz. If you have experienced deep vein thrombosis (DVT) as a result of taking Yasmin, Yaz or Ocella, you need experienced representation on your side.
