Over 4,000 Yasmin lawsuits filed

Nearly 4,200 people have filed lawsuits after having taken Yasmin, Yaz or Ocella birth control alleging that they suffered severe injuries after taking it.

According to a judge in the U.S. District Court, there are currently 3,900 cases pending in court and each month the number continues to grow. FDA approves Bayer Pharmaceutical's new birth control pill

On September 24, the Food and Drug Administration has approved a new birth control pill produced by the maker of Yasmin and Yaz, Bayer Pharmaceuticals.

The new birth control pill, Beyaz, is very similar to Yaz, but it has an added a Folate Supplement and B-Vitamins that helps create and maintain new cells in the body. When a woman reaches childbearing age, the appropriate levels of folate can help lower the risk of complications during pregnancy and help prevent neural tube defects.

According to Watson Pharmaceuticals Inc., The Food and Drug Administration has approved the drug application that was submitted for Zarah, a generic form of the oral contraceptive, Yasmin.

Watson Laboratories submitted the application to the FDA, the laboratories is a subsidiary of the pharmaceutical company that is currently manufacturing and distributing the drug. Bayer Pharmaceuticals, the maker of the birth control Yasmin and Yaz, are suing Watson Pharmaceuticals for infringing Bayer’s patent number.

The plaintiffs in one case have claimed that that makers of the oral contraceptive, Yaz and Yasmin, have not been providing documents in an appropriate manner.

The Cincinnati woman is claiming that documents on the birth control was practically impossible to work through and the information was never in the same place. Nearly 2,000 lawsuits have been filed nationwide claiming that the makers of the pills did not adequately warn people about serious symptoms that could be associated with the drug such as blood clots, heart attack, and stroke.

Woman sues Yasmin after Gallbladder complications

A 21-year-old woman from Ohio experienced severe abdominal pain after taking Yasmin and went to the doctor to discover that she had a gallbladder disease.

The severe pain came with bleeding and the woman thought that she as having a miscarriage. She was only 19 at the time and not suffered from any issues with her gallbladder previous to the attack.

Texas woman sues Bayer for brain damage

A woman from Dallas, Texas is suing the maker of Yasmin birth control, Bayer Pharmaceuticals, claiming the oral contraceptive caused her to suffer severe brain damage.

The woman had a pulmonary embolism, a blockage in the artery to your lungs, causing the woman’s brain to not receive oxygen and causing her brain damage. She got the pulmonary embolism two years after she began taking Yasmin birth control.

Now, she must have full-time care from her family. The woman’s family thinks that Bayer Pharmaceuticals should be financially responsible for their medical bills.

Thousands of Yasmin boxes recalled in November

Without many knowing, a large amount of Yasmin and Yaz birth control boxes were recalled last year because of the negative side effects such as blood clots, that the drug has been alleged to cause.

An official from CBS Business Network mentioned in May that Bayer had to recall 33,000 boxes of Yasmin and Yaz birth control for controversy over whether good manufacturing was used in their production. Bayer told the FDA that all specifications were up to standard, but the FDA disagreed and the product was recalled in November 2009.

Women in North Texas file lawsuit against YAZ and Yasmin birth control

Bayer drops one suit against Teva

Bayer Pharmaceuticals has withdrawn a lawsuit against Teva after accusing the company on infringing on one of their products, Yaz, and oral contraceptive. Bayer has accused Teva of using a generic version of Yaz.

Bayer dropped the suit in the Delaware District County Court but has continuing pursuing the issue in the Nevada County Court. A statement released by Bayer said that Bayer is passionate about fighting against infringement issues and will continue to fight against Teva’s Gianvi in Nevada.
