Doctors still plan to prescribe Yaz, Yasmin

Posted on December 29th, 2011 No Comments

Although evidence has been released stating that the risk of blood clots are increased for patients who use Yaz and Yasmin, doctors have said that they will still prescribe the medication.

Yaz is a fourth generation birth control pill that contains the hormone, drospirenone and recently, officials with the Food and Drug Administration have stated that the warning label on the product should be changed to reflect the risk of blood clot that is higher then other birth control pills.

Although the FDA decided this, they have stated that the benefits of the drug outweigh the risks. Studies suggest that the number of women who will have a blood clot from this pill are 10 in 10,000. More research is being done on the oral contraceptive at this time.

FDA may order new warning labels to be put on Yaz, Yasmin

Safety regulators with the Food and Drug Administration have researched the newer generation of birth control pills and found that they have an increased risk of blood clots.

Although the increase may not be huge, the FDA is considering adding a new warning label to these new generation pills including, Yaz and Yasmin. These newer birth control pills are very popular because they have less side effects then other older birth control pills and can also clear acne and balance hormonal issues.

Regulators previously made Bayer change their advertisements to discuss the safety issues that are associated with them and the birth control pills decreased in sales as a result.

Bayer questions studies that suggest Yasmin has higher risk of blood clots

Posted on May 4th, 2011 No Comments

Bayer Pharmaceuticals has questioned the recent findings that state that newer birth controls such as, Yasmin, Yaz and Ocella carry a higher risk than older oral contraceptives to cause blood clots.

The studies were published in the British Medical Journal and Bayer has announced in a press release that the results were unreliable. The study looked at blood clots that were suffered by users of Yasmin and Yaz and compared them to users of older contraceptives.

Researchers found that the rate of blood clots suffered with Yasmin and Yaz users was nearly double that of users of other contraceptives. Researchers concluded that these newer birth controls were not as safe.
